Leghuggers, bootyholders, thighwarmers, whatever it is you call pants – have existed for thousands of years. To give a completely unnecessary historical context, the oldest pair of pants ever found was dated back to between the 10-13th century in Xinjiang, China.
The EcoTrek multi-use sustainable travel pants by LIVSN threw me away when I saw it. WOW. Never have I needed a pair of travel pants so much – though I already have 4 pairs of normal pants.
Nevertheless, their arguments for buying their water-resistant camping pants (and more) is great, but is their product actually good? And is it innovative? Let’s use our tried-and-tested review criteria and see if it survives.
The Product
Innovation
Is this a truly new product that you can’t find on the market? Or this a product that defines an entirely new product category. In some cases, the combination of several features into one or the introduction of a new feature to an old product are also considered to be an innovation.
The idea to make pants suitable for both outside and formal use is not that new. There’s a good number of competitors (which I will talk about in the next section). However, LIVSN took it up a notch by adding amazing colour options AND making them from reused ocean buoys. Talk about tech pants!
I’ve never seen a pair of comfortable travel pants with so many good features included in one. Everything is thought through. The only upgrade it could have would be an ice cream machine. Sadly I believe the market is not big enough to start the production of said pair.
They also mention the EcoTrek water-resistant pants have a special EDC pocket. After looking up what EDC is we end up with two options:
-
Every day carry, or
-
Electric Daisy Festival
To conclude that research, it’s magnificent and never seen before that a pair of pants has a special pocket designed to contain the biggest electronic dance music festival in North America. Very impressive.
Jokes aside, it seems like high-quality lightweight hiking pants with many additional uses and better attention to detail than anything else on the market. It gets a good handful of points in this category.
Competitiveness
How much better is it than the competition? Is it faster? Bigger? Cooler? More affordable? There needs to be a solid reason why you should back this project over any other.

Pants are seen before. Multi-use pants are seen before. Comfortable and stylish pants are seen before. But that caramel colour……… UFF.
Every pant-dealership-entrepreneurship-factory (aka. stores) only sell comfortable pants for travel in charcoal, khaki, and maybe – on festive occasions – green colours.
After browsing countless multi-use pants – the EcoTrek stands out from the crowd clearly – though it might not have 6 pockets it’s an all-around good choice for people who wear pants…
And they’re affordable. Affordable adventure pants. (Great band name)
HOWEVER, there are no designated women’s versions: They mention in their FAQ that women can, of course, wear it without trouble, but I missed seeing a specially tailored version for women. However, it seems like standard practice.
The Team
Reliability
How capable is the team? Have they developed something like this before? Do they have crowdfunding experience? Manufacturing experience? A lot of campaigns fail to deliver their product because they don’t know what they’re doing.
The creators of this campaign have massive credibility. Not only because they previously got great success from two other campaigns, but also because the creator was working as a CEO in – what seems to be – a respected outdoor brand: Fayettechill Clothing Company.
In their previous campaigns, they’ve given consistent, detailed, and personal updates – which are a delight to read – and have shipped successfully to happy customers.
I’ve been trying to dig for dirt on them for two hours and haven’t found anything noteworthy. They seem truly legit. I would back this twice, nay thrice, without worry.
Attitude
How transparent are the campaigners? Do they give their backers valuable updates on their progress? Do they engage with their backers? Crowdfunding is all about community, sharing information, and building a meaningful relationship with the people who fund your project.
The campaigners are just GREAT. They answer super fast, very personally, and even once posted a backer update showing why their response time had been slow lately. They had gotten a baby!
Professional people with good people’s skills.
In an update, they also told backers how to use kickbooster to earn referral money from promoting the EcoTrek and the regularly have Instagram Q&A’s.
I like their style – a focus on community. If they’re successful with this campaign, it seems like they have the chance to create a mature brand with a good community behind them.
